How To Boot Into Safe Mode

In this tutorial, you will learn how to boot into Windows Safe Mode. Booting into Safe Mode is necessary if you are trying to delete or modify a file that Windows states you do not have access to even if you are logged in as an administrator. In addition, the latest spyware infections cannot be removed in Windows normal mode since the spyware will not allow you to run any of your programs. Safe Mode is also used for troubleshooting Windows issues such as the “Blue Screen of Death” or if your computer cannot boot into Windows normally. The following procedure is based off Windows XP, but the same steps can be used for Windows 98, ME, 2000, and Vista and Windows 7.

*Update: We created a video showing the steps needed to start Windows in Safe Mode. You can see the video right after the following steps. Let us know what you think.

1.) Restart Your Computer
As the computer is starting, wait for the Windows splash screen and then press “F8″ on your keyboard. The splash screen for Windows XP is shown here:

2.) Choose Safe Mode Option
After pressing “F8″, the Windows Advanced Options Mode screen will appear and looks like this:

Here you have a choice of what boot option to choose. For deleting malicious files, you can simply choose the “Safe Mode” option, which is the first choice. If you need to access the Internet or need to download a spyware remover program then choose “Safe Mode with Networking.”
